Vertiv is pushing deeper into industrial infrastructure with a new UPS system called the Vertiv PowerUPS 6000 Industrial that could be the life-saving piece for deployments where regular power backup systems just don’t hold up – places like manufacturing plants, transportation infrastructure, oil and gas facilities, pharmaceutical production, food processing, packaging lines, and even steel mills.

The highlight of this new release is the intentional rugged design, as it carries an IP42 rating that tolerates dust, humidity, and ambient temperatures of up to 50°C, and is made to protect critical industrial control systems such as PLCs, SCADA platforms, industrial networking hardware, and automated production lines – all of which rely heavily on stable power to avoid disruptions. The size’s pretty flexible too, as in its footprint being compact enough to fit into tight spaces.

The UPS can reach up to 96% efficiency in double-conversion mode and as high as 99% in ECO mode, as well as supporting multiple battery types, including VRLA, Nickel-Cadmium, and lithium-ion configurations, allowing operators to tailor runtime based on their facility’s needs.

Strong enough to handle unstable power grids, its wide input voltage tolerance, ranging from -40% to +25%, delivers conditioned output with low harmonic distortion, and includes parallel capability for redundancy or scaling capacity. Internally, conformal-coated PCBAs help protect against dust, moisture, and corrosion, while the system meets multiple European standards, including IEC 62040, EN 50121, EN 50171, and SEMI F47.

Vertiv’s VP of Modular Power Converters, Greg Funk, expressed that traditional UPS systems often struggle in industrial environments where you have unstable electricity, high temperatures, and airborne contaminants floating around. Because of that, the PowerUPS 6000 Industrial was engineered specifically for Industry 4.0 use cases, allowing it to maintain reliable performance even on factory floors, refineries, and production lines where power fluctuations and harsh conditions are common.

Meanwhile, their Director for AC Power and Power Distribution in Asia, Arunangshu Chattopadhyay, pointed out that the increase in automation across Asian industries is making production environments more sensitive to power fluctuations. As factories adopt advanced process controls and connected equipment, systems like the PowerUPS 6000 are meant to help maintain uptime, protect automation investments, and keep highly automated facilities running without interruption.
