Transcend starts off the year with a bang as they’ve just bagged a total of 4 awards from the Taiwan Excellence Awards 2018! A hearty congratulations to Transcend for winning a total of 4 awards and a great start for the auspicious 2018.

Transcend won a the Taiwan Excellence Awards 2018 with their StoreJet 25M3E and the StoreJet 25C3 external hard drives, the CM42 M.2 SSD enclosure kit, and also the ESD220C portable SSD.

These 4 awards are granted by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, TAITRA for short, on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Nominated products have to go through 4 different evaluation criteria – its R&D, design, quality, and marketing before judging its “innovation value”.

We actually looked at a few of these products that won the Taiwan Excellence Awards 2018 too. Starting off with the Transcend ESD220C – the portable SSD.

I have to say, the advantage of having an external SSD rather than a USB drive does have its perks. Firstly, you get a superior transfer speed for both read and write, although the USB 3.0 standards can’t match SATA III’s speeds. However, external SSDs through USB shows that it can achieve higher IOPS compared to the basic USB drives – which is a good thing.

Then comes the Transcend 25C3N that we reviewed. It’s sleek. Seriously, there’s no external hard disk as beautiful as this one. It’s slim, lightweight, and has a beautiful minimalist design. With its chamfered edges, the StoreJet 25C3N is definitely for those who want the sleekest external hard drive out there.

With that said, the update kits like the CM42 is really useful, as it can convert any M.2 SATA SSDs into a USB 3.0 drive. Essentially, it becomes something like the ESD220C. Of course, you can choose to slot in whatever M.2 SATA SSD you like – just be mindful of the form factor. With that said, upgrade kits mean that you can still use your old M.2 SSD as an external storage device if you choose to upgrade your internal SSD. With this option, your old SSD wouldn’t be collecting dust.

Last but definitely not the least is the Transcend StoreJet 25M3E. It has Transcend’s iconic design for an external hard disk – the silicon enclosure and internal shock absorbents. Transcend has been improving this design over the years, and it’s now more secure inside and out. It has military grade resistance – U.S. military drop-test standards MIL-STD-810G 516.6 to be exact. It also has 256-bit AES file & folder encryption to ensure all of your files are secured.

Do you own any of these Transcend products? Are you planning to get any of them? I think upgrade kits are important as you get to keep using your storage drives as USB drives. Nothing is wasted!
