Synology has unveiled the latest DiskStation Manager (DSM) 7.2 which brings a host of innovative enhancements targeted at tackling various IT challenges such as storage and backup, performance improvements, access controls, and storage planning capabilities.

For starters, the new DSM 7.2 introduces license-free immutable storage and backup features like WriteOnce shared folders and Immutable Snapshots, helping organizations safeguard their data from attacks, tampering, and accidental deletions. Full-Volume Encryption also encrypts data at rest to guarantee data privacy and security in the event of a breach or theft.

Furthermore, it brings extended support for M.2 NVMe SSD storage volumes to enable greater flexibility in utilizing built-in M.2 NVMe slots on a wider range of systems.

DSM 7.2 also introduces an adaptive multi-factor authentication, which evaluates contextual factors to determine if additional verification is needed. In addition, security measures are enhanced with the implementation of Auto Block for protection against brute force attacks, and QuickConnect for global IP address banning.

Not only that, but the Active Insight feature is also packed with storage capacity forecasting to empower IT administrators and MSPs to effectively plan their future storage needs by offering insights into current storage utilization and estimating future capacity requirements.
