Samsung Malaysia has announced the arrival of the new 9100 PRO NVMe SSD, featuring the latest PCIe 5.0 interface for next-generation ultra-fast speeds.
Delivering sequential read and write speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s and 13,400 MB/s respectively, the 9100 PRO stands as Samsung’s fastest consumer SSD to date. It also achieves significantly improved random I/O performance, rated at 2,200K IOPS for reads and 2,600K IOPS for writes.
While the drive may run hotter than its predecessors, Samsung has improved its power efficiency by 49%. The 2TB model achieves 1,822 MB/s and 1,703 MB/s per Watt for read and write operations, respectively—surpassing the 990 PRO 4TB’s 1,221 MB/s and 1,255 MB/s per Watt.
To mitigate heat and reduce the risk of thermal throttling, Samsung has equipped the 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models with an 8.8mmT heatsink that is compliant with the PCI-SIG D8 standard. The 8TB variant—marking Samsung’s first venture into this capacity—comes with a thicker 11.25mmT heatsink for enhanced thermal management.
As expected, the 9100 PRO series supports Samsung Magician software, offering features such as performance optimization, data migration, drive health monitoring, data protection, and firmware updates.
Price and availability
The Samsung 9100 PRO will be available starting April 4 through the Samsung Online Store, Samsung Official Stores on Lazada and Shopee, and selected consumer electronics retailers. Pricing is as follows:
