Despite the NAND-pocalypse, Samsung has pushed forward the release of the 990 SSD to serve as a one-tier down alternative to the flagship 990 PRO.
The 990 SSD can do up to 7,250MB/s and 7,150MB/s sequential reads for 2TB and 1TB capacities, respectively, while sequential reads are up to 6,450MB/s for both.
For random IOPS, Samsung mentioned a 850K read / 1.2M write for 2TB, and 700K read / 1.1M write for 1TB instead.
Power efficiency has also been drastically improved with up to 38% less energy consumption, so one will definitely feel the difference if it is being used in a laptop or any battery-powered device.
The 990 SSD also supports Samsung Magician Software for drive health monitoring, firmware update, and data protection.
Price and Availability
The Samsung 990 SSD will be available in Malaysia from the end of July 2026.
