Xero has unveiled a wave of new AI-powered capabilities designed to automate bookkeeping, simplify financial workflows, and help small businesses better manage their cash flow.
Announced during Xerocon London, one of the biggest areas receiving an AI boost is bookkeeping and tax compliance via Partner Hub expansion that made it into a centralized workspace that gives accounting firms a live overview of book health, workflow status, and month-end readiness while connecting directly to tax and advisory services.
Powered by JAX, it also makes data entry more automated through Smart Document Capture, which extracts information directly from receipts and other financial documents. Future updates will extend this capability to bank statements, automatically generate transactions, and even perform VAT checks.
Meanwhile, Auto Bank Reconciliation now matches transactions with bank feeds in real time, reducing one of the most time-consuming bookkeeping tasks. Xero also plans to support more complex reconciliation scenarios, such as splitting payments between sales and processing fees. Another upcoming feature will automatically detect transactions with missing receipts, making it easier to maintain complete financial records.
Beyond bookkeeping, a new no-code AI agent builder called XeroForce allows businesses and accounting firms to create custom AI agents using natural language prompts, enabling them to connect Xero with 3rd-party applications without writing code.
Other than that, there’s a variety of updates coming in as well, including:
- Microsoft 365 Copilot / Anthropic Claude integration
- Auto personalized payment follow-up plans based on customer payment history
- Review bills before payment and flag potential fraud/error with Bill Protection
- Expanded Cash Flow actions with recommendations
All of these new capabilities run on Xero’s AI-native Xero OS platform, giving small businesses, accountants, and bookkeepers a unified environment for managing finances while reducing manual work.
