Other World Computing (OWC) is joining the war of plug-and-play AI power-up sticks through the announcement of the OWC Stack AI hardware.
This new attempt sees OWC putting out a portable hardware accelerator and storage hub that connects over Thunderbolt 5 to help businesses run larger AI models locally, made for organizations that were caught between high cloud subscription fees and local hardware that lacks the onboard GPU memory to handle demanding workloads. By expanding effective working memory through integrated high-speed flash storage, the hub prevents systems from crashing or running out of VRAM during intensive tasks. Using on-premise hardware also eliminates data egress, keeping sensitive legal, financial, and medical files on-premise to comply with strict privacy requirements.
The box can be placed on desks for easy installation or can be taken on the road easily, thanks to its compact form factor. The chassis includes built-in upgradeable storage alongside downstream Thunderbolt 5 and USB ports to maintain standard connectivity options for extra peripherals. On the software side, the platform supports various ecosystem AI agents and applications, including OpenClaw right at launch, with more model compatibility planned as the ecosystem matures.
OWC Stack AI is scheduled to launch later this year with initial support for select Windows and Linux PCs and laptops, while Mac support is planned for a future release. OWC will also showcase it during COMPUTEX 2026, so if you’re attending the event, be sure to visit their booth.
