The youngest Mac computer that Apple is currently offering is the 12 inch MacBook which was refreshed back in April 2016. The rest of the Mac family, however, is in dire for a refresh, especially the now 1000-days-old Mac Pro and the 520-days-old MacBook Pro. Not to mention the iMac and MacBook Air are equally due for a refresh as well.
Just yesterday, Apple finally sends out invitations to their upcoming event on the 27th October 2016, titled “hello again”, a reminiscent to the original Mac which was introduced in 1984 with the tagline “hello”.
Based on a reliable report by Mac o Takara Blog, the Mac-centric event would reveal the updated MacBook Pro (Late-2016) for both 13-inch and 15-inch model, shipping end-October. In addition, the MacBook Air will receive a refresh for the 13-inch model, but the 11-inch model will ultimately being discontinued.
Mac o Takara also added that the new MacBook Pro would feature 4 USB Type-C ports with USB 3.1 speed, supporting ThunderBolt 3. Altogether removing MagSafe 2, USB Type-A, HDMI, SD card slot, Mini Display Port and ThunderBolt 2. That is quite a move considering that USB Type-C is still in the adoption stage and carrying around adapters is not fun at all.
Previous leaks also point to the possibilities of having an OLED touch panel replacing the physical function keys, where the panel would provide different function contextually. It is also rumoured that the new MacBook Pro would include a Touch ID and a keyboard utilising Apple’s butterfly mechanism low-profile key switches, just like the 12-inch MacBook.
While the MacBook Pro is being heavily rumoured, the other Macs, however, receive little to none leak. Still, that doesn’t mean there won’t be any updates coming on the 27th, stay tuned for more updates.
