AMD has announced its 5th Gen AMD EPYC processors are now the driving hardware for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Compute E6 Standard shapes.
Thanks to its powerful yet efficient computing performance for enterprise, AI, and cloud workloads, the aforementioned platform can now deliver up to 2x the cost-to-performance ratio compared to the previous E5 generation according to OCI’s internal testing.
Building on the success of the E5 generation, the new OCI Compute E6 shapes are designed to provide leading performance and cost efficiency for both general-purpose and compute-intensive workloads. This addition expands the range of over a thousand compute instances powered by AMD EPYC processors across all major cloud providers.
“The rapid adoption of AMD EPYC processors in the cloud highlights our ability to deliver innovative, high-performance solutions that empower our partners to build highly competitive cloud offerings,” said Dan McNamara, senior vice president and general manager of AMD’s Server Business. “OCI’s flexible infrastructure, combined with the performance of 5th Gen AMD EPYC processors, helps customers accelerate their most demanding workloads while optimizing their cloud infrastructure.”
Donald Lu, senior vice president of software development at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is committed to providing customers with the best-performing, most cost-effective cloud offerings. With the new OCI Compute E6 Standard shapes powered by AMD EPYC processors, we are delivering an unmatched blend of compute power, scalability, and efficiency to support today’s most complex workloads.”
Availability
OCI Compute E6 Standard bare metal instances and virtual machines are now available in multiple regions, including US East (Ashburn), US West (Phoenix), US Midwest (Chicago), Germany Central (Frankfurt), and UK South (London), with plans for further expansion in the coming months.
