The extreme overclocking community has a new king, and the mythical 10 GHz dream is creeping closer than ever.

In a staggering display of teamwork and extreme engineering, Chinese overclocker wytiwx, alongside teammate ivanqu0208, has obliterated the previous CPU frequency world record. Pushing silicon beyond what many thought stable or possible, the team achieved an authenticated clock speed of 9206.34 MHz on an Intel Core i9-14900KF processor.
This historic milestone officially leaves legendary overclocker Elmor in the rearview mirror and sets a spectacular new benchmark on HWBot.
The Recipe for Greatness: Hardware Breakdown

Shattering a world record requires the perfect harmony of silicon lottery luck, top-tier engineering, and extreme cooling tactics. The record-breaking test bench utilized a meticulously tuned combination of consumer and professional-grade gear:
- CPU: Intel Core i9-14900KF (Raptor Lake-S Refresh architecture)
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Apex
- Cooling: Sub-zero Liquid Helium (LHe) pot
- Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (the lightweight OS of choice for extreme CPU verification runs)
Taming the Beast: Liquid Helium at -256°C

While Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) is the standard tool for competitive benchmarking, its boiling point of -196°C simply wasn’t cold enough to achieve the stability required for a 9.20 GHz breakthrough.
Instead, the team turned to Liquid Helium, an incredibly volatile and expensive coolant that boils at a near-absolute zero temperature of -269°C. During the record-breaking run, monitoring sensors spotted core temperatures dipping to an unbelievable -256°C.
Stripping Down for Speed
To minimize thermal output and maximize electrical stability under a core voltage pumped to 1.387V, wytiwx heavily modified the processor’s internal operation:
- Disabled All E-Cores: All 16 Efficiency cores were completely shut off.
- Hyper-Threading Off: Multi-threading was disabled.
- P-Core Focus: The system’s power delivery was funneled entirely into driving the remaining 8 Performance cores to their absolute architectural limits.
The Ever-Escalating Leaderboard
For a long time, the overclocking hall of fame was dominated by legendary chips like AMD’s FX-8350, which held onto frequency records for nearly a decade. However, Intel’s Raptor Lake architecture has ushered in a Golden Age of clock speeds.
| Rank | Overclocker | CPU Model | Frequency Achieved |
| 1st | wytiwx | Intel Core i9-14900KF | 9206.34 MHz |
| 2nd | wytiwx | Intel Core i9-14900KF | 9130.33 MHz |
| 3rd | elmor | Intel Core i9-14900KS | 9117.75 MHz |
| 4th | safedisk | Intel Core i9-14900KF | 8851.57 MHz |
Reflecting on the feat, the team expressed surprise at how well the chip scaled, noting that while they initially aimed to edge past their previous 9.13 GHz run, the synergy of teamwork and flawless Liquid Helium management pushed them comfortably into 9.20 GHz territory.
With the new 9.20 GHz record now set, the global PC enthusiast community sits waiting with bated breath. The question is no longer if a desktop processor will hit 10 GHz, but when.
