After last year’s Steam Deck release that robbed everyone’s attention to the portable gaming handheld market, ASUS ROG ain’t gonna just sit down and take that as they released the news of the ROG Ally on April Fools, thinking they can outfool the people.
But no, the truth is the ROG Ally is positioned to be far stronger than Valve’s portable Linux-based machine due to the exclusive AMD Z1 series APU with RDNA 3 GPU to deliver actual triple-A games that are intensive and immersive. Also, the fact it runs Windows 11 means that any games will be supported one way or another – no compatibility plugins like the Photon are required.
The ROG Zero Gravity thermal system that utilizes a dual-fan system with ultra-thin heatsink fins and high-friction heat pipes ensures the player won’t scorch their palms at any point they are gaming while the flagship screen delivers a nice 120Hz refresh rate in 1080p resolution with FreeSync Premium support. Need to do some point-and-click? Just use your fingers as the screen is touch-supported.
ASUS ROG also included a special edition of the Armoury Crate software made specifically for the ROG Ally that include things like performance mode toggles, game launchers, monitoring software, Aura Sync configurator, and more. Wanna jump start with some games? Sure! All purchases will come with a 90-day trial of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate so you can start downloading all the latest titles immediately alongside your Xbox Series X if you own one since the Ultimate tier lets you access the service within one pass too.
Speaking of its weight, it comes in at about 608g so it is not terribly heavy but definitely has some heft in it but still, you may be capable of playing it all day long without experiencing tiring palms and whatnot thanks to the unique triangle texturing on the rear gives solid hold while the styling lines on the side provides some needed grip.
Tune In For the Launch
The price and official sale date for the ROG Ally will be revealed on May 11, 11 PM Malaysia Time so if you want first-hand news about it, be sure to tune in.
