MSI has rolled out its latest series of motherboards powered by the AMD Ryzen B850 and B840 chipsets, designed to offer a solid mix of performance, ease of use, and value. The new lineup caters to a wide range of users, from gamers and content creators to mainstream users looking for a reliable, feature-packed solution.

MSI B860 Motherboards CES 2025

MSI B850 & B840

The MSI B850 motherboards are designed to get the most out of the latest AMD Ryzen processors. Key features include PCIe 5.0, DDR5 memory, and multiple M.2 slots, along with advanced power delivery systems to ensure stability during demanding tasks like gaming or multitasking. The B850 chipset offers more flexibility with CPU and memory overclocking, while the B840 chipset is aimed at users who prioritize stability and value, with memory-only overclocking.

In terms of convenience, MSI has integrated several EZ DIY features across the B850 and B840 boards. The EZ M.2 Shield Frozr II simplifies M.2 SSD installation, and the EZ PCIe Release feature makes it easier to remove graphics cards. For those using Wi-Fi, the EZ Antenna design eliminates the hassle of rotating connectors when attaching antennas. These small design touches are aimed at making PC builds and upgrades smoother for both first-time builders and experienced users.

Connectivity is also a highlight, with support for Wi-Fi 7, 5G LAN, and USB 20G ports for fast data transfers. There are multiple M.2 slots to ensure plenty of storage options, and the boards are built with durable components like extended heatsinks and multi-layer PCB designs to keep temperatures in check.

MAG B850 & PRO B850/B840 Series

For users who need a reliable motherboard without the premium price tag, the MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI and MAG B850M MORTAR WIFI provide excellent value. Both models feature PCIe 5.0 M.2 slots for fast storage, Wi-Fi 7, and 5G LAN for connectivity. The MAG B850M MORTAR WIFI is a compact mATX motherboard, offering a good balance of features for smaller builds.

The PRO B850 and PRO B840 Series are aimed at professionals, businesses, and casual users. These boards have a more neutral silver design and up to a 12-phase power system, making them reliable for everyday computing tasks. They also come with EZ DIY features, like EZ PCIe Clip II and EZ M.2 Shield Frozr II, which streamline the process of installing and upgrading components.

Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, 5G LAN, and plenty of USB ports, ensuring that these boards can handle a variety of devices and provide a solid network connection for both personal and work use.

Two More X870E motherboards to the list

Along with the B850 and B840 models, MSI has also introduced two additional options in the X870 series: the MPG X870E EDGE TI WIFI and MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI, which come with more premium features for those who need extra performance and connectivity.

MPG X870E EDGE TI WIFI

For users seeking something more advanced, the MPG X870E EDGE TI WIFI offers a premium design with sleek white aesthetics and RGB lighting around the Extended Heatsink. It supports Wi-Fi 7 and 5G LAN for fast and reliable networking, along with USB 4 Type-C ports that feature DisplayPort output, allowing for fast data transfers and high-quality display connections.

The EZ DIY features on this board also stand out, with options like EZ PCIe Release, EZ M.2 Shield Frozr II, and EZ Antenna, which simplify building and upgrading your system. The front USB 20G Type-C header provides 27W power delivery, making it easy to charge devices quickly.

MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI

The MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI offers similar performance to the EDGE TI model but at a slightly lower price point. It comes with a 14-phase Duet Rail Power System and 80A SPS, ensuring stable power delivery for demanding workloads. Like the EDGE TI, the TOMAHAWK model also features Wi-Fi 7, 5G LAN, and USB 40G ports for fast data transfers and peripheral support.

The EZ DIY features here are similar to the EDGE TI, providing simple and quick installation for graphics cards and M.2 SSDs. The EZ Antenna design also makes it easier to attach Wi-Fi antennas, contributing to a more hassle-free building experience.

Price and Availability?

As of now, MSI Malaysia has yet to announce the pricing and availability of these new motherboards, but based on the impressive specifications so far—including robust power designs, cutting-edge connectivity options, and all the quality-of-life features MSI has become known for—it’s clear that AMD is pushing forward with the B850 and B840 chipsets to deliver a top-tier experience for its users.

If we compare the B850 offerings to Intel’s competing B860 models, which we had the chance to review earlier, the two are strikingly similar, reflecting healthy competition in the mainstream motherboard market. This is excellent news for end users, as such competition often leads to better value, more options, and greater innovation in the long run.

We’ll keep you updated once MSI Malaysia releases more details on local availability and pricing.
