The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 and RTX 50 series’ use of the 12VHPWR (and also 12V-2×6) is still a controversial piece of tech discussion to this day. Due to unstable power delivery causing cables, ports, and even surrounding parts to self-destruct, people blamed the design, some called out users for not installing “according to instructions”. Regardless, the issue is there from the beginning, and it took years for brands and OEMs to come up with products that could, at least, mitigate the problem.
One such release from recent weeks is the ROG Equalizer power cable.
ROG is tackling the problem from a power delivery angle, focusing on how current is distributed across the pins. In most cases where melting and overheating have occurred, only 1 or 2 pins are doing the heavy job, resulting in them carrying more load than others. With the ROG Equalizer, it basically does load balancing to make sure all pins get more or less the same current, while also keeping temperatures under control and making the connection more stable over time.
They’re also pushing higher current capacity per wire compared to standard cables, which gives them more headroom for modern GPUs that can spike pretty aggressively. And if you’re using compatible ASUS hardware, power monitoring is also supported.
Compatibility-wise, it’s built for ATX 3.1 power supplies with native 12V-2×6 connectors, so this is clearly aimed at newer systems rather than retrofitting older builds. ASUS is also planning to bundle it with upcoming ROG power supplies, which suggests they see this as part of a broader push toward safer, more reliable power delivery in high-performance PCs.
Although it is not ready for commercial release yet, early reports pointed to it as a $49.99 item.
