Malaysia-based robotics and AI-focused company MR. ROBOT has announced they have secured US$5 million in strategic funding by MR D.I.Y. International, Agibot, and The Hub’s Investment Group to accelerate the development of embodied AI technologies for commercial and retail operations.
Founded by Edwin Yap, the company aims to move robotics beyond controlled industrial settings. He noted that while robots have traditionally been confined to static factory tasks, the next frontier lies in real-world environments where machines can work alongside people in logistics, service, and retail operations.
Unlike firms that focus solely on hardware, MR. ROBOT is building a comprehensive ecosystem that combines AI models, data collection methods, and specialized robot training environments, allowing machines to continuously learn and improve performance directly from operational settings.
The technology addresses growing pressures in the retail and logistics sectors, including labor shortages, rising operational costs, and increased consumer service expectations. As such, MR. ROBOT is already piloting solutions with retail partners, enabling robots to perform tasks such as shelf replenishment, autonomous goods movement, customer assistance, and store monitoring.
With the new funding, the company plans to expand its research and AI development, build necessary training and data infrastructure, and deploy pilot systems across the SEA region.
