Previewed earlier this year alongside the Steam Machine and the Steam Frame that might have been choked by all the computing and memory chip constraints, the Steam Controller, on the other hand, will be launching on May 4 with a US$99 price tag.

The “ancient artifact” of the Steam Link controller back then is a bit too “futuristic” for most people, and they got alienated. So the 2026 Steam Controller is not doing that, and instead, it is just Steam Deck controls fitted into a standalone controller for your PC setup that also comes with several adjustments and optimizations to let you get the most out of that hundred bucks spent.

You got the Xbox face buttons, symmetrical joysticks for the PS fan, and the signature dual trackpads just below it. Through Steam Input, you can remap pretty much everything, tweak sensitivity, assign macros, and even download community-made layouts for specific games. So whether you’re playing an FPS, a strategy title, or something that normally needs a keyboard and mouse, this controller is trying to cover all of it in one device.

The new thumbsticks are TMR-based, so minimal to no stick drift over time, while features like improved haptics, gyro aiming, and grip sensors add more depth to supported games.

Connection-wise, you can use Bluetooth and USB-C as usual, but the best thing is the Wireless Puck that doubles as the charger via pogo pins and the wireless transmitter, so you get low latency for those frame-dependent action titles.

It also works across multiple platforms like Windows, macOS, Linux, Steam Deck, and even mobile via Steam Link, so it’s not locked into a single ecosystem.

The Steam Controller will go for US$99 and can be purchased on the official website in supported regions.
