Whether it’s expected or surprising, ROG is collaborating with Microsoft to create a special “Xbox” version of the renowned handheld Ally series.

ROG Xbox Ally (4)

Named as ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, these two are running the AMD Ryzen Z2 series processor, with the former doing a Ryzen Z2 A for efficient gaming while the latter uses the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, gunning for maximum performance plus some AI readiness through the integrated NPU capable of running things like AMD FSR / RSR / FMF.

They also changed quite a lot of the ergonomic aspects too, as the chassis ditches the “switch-like” shape and sees the return of the controller grip alongside Xbox-inspired comfort, which is a nice thing to start and will help Xbox controller users quickly familiarize themselves with the handheld as well.

Additionally, the Ally X version comes with a bit more premium things, such as impulse triggers for better haptic feedback in supported games, pushing the immersion even further.

As for software, they worked out a lot of things for a seamless experience, such as full-screen Xbox UI for thematic as well as practical reasons as well as optimized interface navigation and reduced Windows 11 overhead for more performance on the go. Simply speaking, players can jump straight into their games with smooth navigation and quick access to settings via the Xbox button, all while retaining the freedom to run non-Xbox titles and mods thanks to the underlying Windows OS.

ASUS is stepping up its handheld game with the new ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X, a fresh lineup built from scratch in collaboration with Xbox to offer a more immersive and player-first gaming experience. These new devices are all about comfort, performance, and a seamless Xbox-style interface, all while keeping the versatility of Windows 11.
