Razer has announced a couple of new stuff recently, but it’s in 2 different categories – One is about battling AI bots in gaming, another one is about WYVRN which is a platform made for developers.
So, the tri-head-snake brand teamed up with World, the group behind that whole digital proof-of-human thing, to tackle the growing issue of AI bots in gaming. They’re rolling out something called ‘Razer ID verified by World ID’, which basically makes sure that when you’re playing online, you’re up against real humans, not bots. It’s a new layer added to Razer ID, their single sign-on that covers everything in the Razer ecosystem, like game boosting, hardware settings, payment services, and even their rewards program.
Powered by this verification system, it will let developers create “human-only” gameplay modes that practically mean only Razer ID-bounded accounts can queue into matchmaking or whatever the case, which should help keep things fair and competitive. Bots have been a huge issue lately—apparently, 59% of gamers have run into them, and most people say it ruins multiplayer games. Some even quit games altogether because of it. So, this partnership feels pretty timely.
Their first test run of this will be in a new game called ‘TOKYO BEAST’ set in 2124 Tokyo with humans and androids coexisting. The game mixes prediction-based and traditional gameplay, plus NFT collecting and in-game purchases via Razer Gold. Since NFTs are involved, human verification is super important to prevent scams and misinformation.
The official source claims that the tech behind World ID keeps everything anonymous as it won’t expose your personal information anywhere – it will just return a “real person confirmed” to whatever system is asking.
Both companies are pushing this as a way to protect gamers and make online spaces safer. They even did a survey showing that most gamers want platforms to use biometric tech to verify humans, especially those who game heavily
For now, gamers just need to use their Razer ID to access the World App, set up a World ID, and get verified as human.
On the other hand, there’s the Razer WYVRN which is a platform or package in some sense, that allows game developers to quickly integrate Razer technologies into their games so that titles will bring more exclusive functions to Razer peripherals like mouse, keyboards, the Chroma RGB, speakers featuring THX Spatial Audio, and more. For now, it is built for Unreal Engine 5.5, but it may expand to other game engines in the future.
WYVRN is already live, so you can check it out or download it. Plus, there’s early access for partners.
