Most people might know about esports, you know, high-level gamers duking it out in a professional setting backed by numerous brands and sponsors. But what about “E”sports – E as in Excel.
That’s what the Microsoft Excel World Championship (Or formally known as Financial Modelling World Cup) is about, with participants going head-to-head solving advanced Excel problems—testing logic, creativity, and analytical thinking. And for this year, India will be joining the battle thanks to a partnership with Skyesports and Indian Digital Gaming Society (IDGS).
The India Qualifier will be happening in Chennai, and the winner will score an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas for the MEWC 2025 World Finals’ Round of 64, happening at the end of the year. On top of that, they’ll also attend a three-day financial modeling and Excel training bootcamp in Vegas, valued at over ₹1,00,000. The World Finals won’t just be tucked away on a spreadsheet somewhere either—they’ll be broadcast live on FMWC’s YouTube channel, plus streamed across ESPN.
If you’re interested, you can register on the MEWC India Qualifier site and get an access link right before the event starts. You’ll have a 45-minute window to jump in, and once you start, a 30-minute countdown begins. From there, the top 12 scorers move on to the national finals at the Skyesports HQ studio in Chennai, where things get real with a live, on-ground competition, but of course, it will be streamed online too.
