Huawei recently launched the 2021 edition of their MateBook laptops and while there are not many changes to the designs, we did get some system upgrades with the new products. One thing to note about Huawei laptops is that are quite similar to each other, both in looks and specs. This brings up the question; which Huawei laptop is the best?

Here are some of the key features in three Huawei MateBook models – the MateBook X Pro, the MateBook 14, and the MateBook D 15.

MateBook X Pro (2021)

HUAWEI MatebookX Pro

As the suggests, the MateBook X Pro is considered the premier model from Huawei. The latest generation is equipped with an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 processor, 16 GB LPDDR4x memory, and up to 512 GB of SSD storage. Compared to the previous generation, this is an improvement of about 22% which means you can get faster performance for multitasking and better image and video processing.

The laptop weighs about 1.3 kg and is only 14.6 mm thick so it is portable and great for when you are on the go. The body of the laptop may only be 13.9-inches but with fewer bezels, you can get a stunning 91% screen-to-body ratio. Also, the 3000 x 2000 resolution and 100% sRGB2 wide colour gamut will promise vivid and sharp visuals. Another thing to note about the LTPS screen is that it is a touch screen, a plus for many laptop users because it allows for more control.

It seems that the MateBook X Pro comes with quite a few pros so what about the cons? Well, some say that even with the system upgrade, the performance of the laptop is still middling compared to other premier laptops at the same price point. Also, to give way to the slim design of the laptop and its screen, you end up with very few ports and a webcam that is not at the best angle because it is hidden in the keyboard. Huawei did claim that this innovative design is great for privacy so if you are in Malaysia and you are working from home during this MCO period, maybe this Huawei laptop could give you peace of mind when it comes to your privacy.

MateBook 14 (2021)

HUAWEI Matebook14

Another model from Huawei MateBook 2021 series is the MateBook 14 and at a glance, it is not much different from the MateBook X Pro. This model is also equipped with an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 processor, 16 GB LPDDR4x memory, and up to 512 GB of SSD storage. This means that you can also get a smooth user experience and fast performance with this model.

The 14-inch body of the laptop is paired with thin bezels to provide users with a 90% screen-to-body ratio. The screen is also a high-precision multi-touch screen which allows for a fully intuitive interface and more control. The laptop can also last about 10 hours on a full charge, and with the 65W charger, you can get a good 2.5 hours of use in just a 15-minute charge. There is also the recessed webcam in the keyboard, which is supposedly good for privacy.

So far, there are a lot of similarities between the MateBook 14 and the MateBook X Pro so where do the differences come in? The first one would be the display because the MateBook 14 only offers a 2K display with a resolution of 2160 x 1440. Another thing is that the MateBook 14 is slightly heavier and thicker at about 1.4 kg and 15.9 mm but that is to be expected due to the size of the laptop. The MateBook 14 also has more ports so you can connect your cables without needed a dock.

MateBook D 15 (2021)

HUAWEI MatebookD 15

Another Huawei laptop introduced at the launch is the MateBook D 15 and once again, you can see similarities in this model with the others. Like the previous two models, the MateBook D 15 is also equipped with an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 processor, 16 GB LPDDR4x memory, and up to 512 GB of SSD storage. As the name suggests, the body of the laptop is 15-inches, but you still get thin bezels and an 87% screen-to-body ratio.

With the MateBook D 15, users will also get the 65W charger which will provide 2 hours of use with a 15-minute charge. This model also comes with a good number of ports for USB 2.0, USB 3.2, and USB C. Also, like the other models, the webcam in this laptop is hidden in the keyboard for more privacy.

This Huawei laptop shares quite a few similarities with the previous two models but there are some notable differences. The first would be the display resolution because the MateBook D 15 will only offer a 1920 x 1080 display, which is the lowest out of the three models. This laptop also does not offer a multi-touch screen like the ones on the MateBook X Pro and the MateBook 14. However, this model is the cheapest out of the three and costs almost half the price of the MateBook X Pro.

Huawei laptops are gaining popularity across Asia, including the Philippines, Indonesia, because they are a decent Windows alternative to Apple MacBooks and they offer quite a few good features. However, since most of the models are very similar to each other, it can be difficult to choose the best model for yourself. Overall, there are only a few minor differences between the models so you should pay attention to these features to determine which model is the best for you. Always remember that the most expensive is not necessarily the best and the cheapest may just provide you with what you really need.
