Coursera has officially joined OpenAI’s first generation of apps in ChatGPT, marking the first time an online learning platform has been directly integrated into the conversational AI. Announced during OpenAI’s DevDay, this partnership opens up trusted educational content to hundreds of millions of ChatGPT users worldwide, including those in Malaysia, where enrollments in Generative AI (GenAI) courses have surged by 183% year-over-year.
Built using OpenAI’s new Apps SDK, the Coursera app allows high-quality educational content to be seamlessly embedded within ChatGPT, helping users transition from curiosity to credentials more efficiently. As one of OpenAI’s first app partners, Coursera plans to continue exploring how generative AI can make learning more personalized, interactive, and scalable.
Starting today, Malaysian learners can access Coursera videos and course information directly within ChatGPT conversations. Users can simply ask for the Coursera app by name, while ChatGPT will also recommend it when relevant topics arise—turning everyday chats into dynamic learning sessions.
In Malaysia, the growing interest in GenAI learning reflects a nationwide focus on digital skills development. Popular courses include Google AI Essentials, DeepLearning.AI’s Generative AI for Everyone, and IBM’s Introduction to Artificial Intelligence. Millennials lead the reskilling wave at 58%, followed by Gen X (25%), Gen Z (14%), and Boomers (3%)—aligning with national initiatives such as the National AI Roadmap 2021–2025 and the AI Talent Roadmap 2024–2030.
Malaysian users can now find it within ChatGPT for all tiers, including Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans.
