Microsoft recently confirmed the upcoming retirement of its Mail, Calendar, and People apps.
Citing a report by PCWorld, all three of them will not be able to see the day of light of 2025 and if you’re still using them, you should be getting these alerts (assuming that you didn’t just hit the Close button when something comes up).
With huge efforts and attention poured into the modern Outlook app that takes a little bit of this and that from other services, business and industrial users on Microsoft 365 are being pushed into moving their data from the classic Outlook app to the current one. Specifically, Business Standard and Premium subs are going to be enforced starting Jan 2025 but true big enterprises might have some more leeways and grace period to complete the transfer.
Despite lacking certain features available in classic but not in the new Outlook, the announcement of the “death toll” on these apps feels like an earlier notice than anything since users are more keen to use an application that has more features and see no reason to move if the destination has less than the one they are using.
So yeah, perhaps the big transition movement would occur when the Windows maker adds nearly, or if possible, all of classic Outlook into modern Outlook.
