When you think Intel already has lots of trouble with their 13th and 14th Gen Core CPU chips crashing systems here and there as well as securities lawsuits surrounding their financial reports, today we have one more sad news from Team Blue.

Intel headquarters

According to the latest reports, they have paused several Europe-based projects on top of that one “unfortunate timing” happened in Germany where they discovered ancient burial grounds during construction. As the title mentioned, the France branch is supposed to be established as a new R&D hub dedicated to HPC and AI developments. It was originally going to host around 450 employees by the end of 2024 but it seems it is going to be zero now.

Intel cited ‘economic and market conditions’ as the reason they are holding the facility back temporarily but it will still remain as a future candidate in case the topic becomes feasible and returns to the talking table in the future.

As for Italy, the “death” of the proposed EU€4.5 billion manufacturing plant was affected by other reasons instead, with one of them being the collapsed acquisition deal of Tower Semiconductor due to Chinese authorities mostly giving them the big old ‘NO’.

Despite the mishaps, Intel will be redirecting its efforts to refocus on its existing infrastructures located in other EU regions such as Ireland and Poland.
