Equinix has announced the grand opening of two of the latest data centers in Malaysia.

Placing one in Kuala Lumpur and Johor (and conveniently naming them KL1 and JH1), these International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers are built to support the growing demand and ambitions of the digital economy by offering access to more than 10,000 enterprises, networks, and CSPs across the globe.

As digital transformation has basically been injected with the topic of Gen-AI since last year, denser networks and cloud capabilities are the go-to issues to tackle. With Platform Equinix, Malaysia-based businesses will be empowered by some of the leading players in the industry.

For the folks who are interested in some facts and “behind the scenes” information, here are some provided by Equinix themselves:

  • [JH1] The 2-story facility is situated at Nusajaya Tech Park (NTP) in Iskandar Puteri – just 15km away from Singapore; Suitable for connecting Malaysia and Singapore businesses together
  • [JH1] Up to 500 cabinets and 1,800 square meters of colocation space through an initial investment of US$40M
  • [KL1] Located in Cyberjaya, Kuala Lumpur, and in the heart of Multimedia Super Corridor, it is capable of supporting up to 900 cabinets and colocation space of 2,630 square meters
  • Both data centers will be receiving Equinix Internet Access in Q2 while Equinix Fabric and Fabric Cloud Router in Q2 for JH1 and Q3 for KL1 for seamless connectivity, scalability, and flexibility alongside performance guarantee
  • Both data centers will match acceptable boundaries of the A1A standards from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) for efficient computing
  • Equinix data centers in Malaysia are covered by 100% renewable energy equipment and are on track to achieve neutrality by 2030
