At CES 2026, one of the lesser-known names made themselves highly viral, and that’s Donut Lab and their production-ready all-solid-state battery that can be slid into electric vehicles with ease.
When a potentially game-changing tech gets announced by a so-called “newcomer”, of course, excitement and skepticism are mixed during the big show. So just after a month, the brand has decided to hand its battery over to one of Europe’s most respected independent research bodies, Finland’s state-owned Technology Research Centre VTT, for detailed testing inside its own laboratories.
Rather than letting speculation run wild, the company wants the data to speak for itself, using VTT’s measurements to clearly show what the battery can and can’t do under real test conditions. That transparency push will take the form of a video series shared across Donut Lab’s social channels and the ‘I Donut Believe’ website, alongside the release of full measurement reports on the company’s own site. The first video is scheduled to go live on Monday, February 23 at 2PM CET.
At a broader level, solid-state batteries have long been touted as the next major leap for electric mobility, thanks to their inherent safety and performance benefits over traditional lithium-ion designs. Donut Lab claims its battery enables longer driving range, lighter vehicle structures, and far more freedom in product design, while avoiding flammable liquids and the risk of thermal runaway, even under extreme conditions. If the independent data backs this up, the company’s donut-shaped battery could mark a meaningful turning point for how future electric vehicles are built.
