Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) has joined forces with Ericsson to launch a nationwide training program that’s set to equip 40,000 government and municipal employees with hands-on knowledge in next-gen technologies like 5G, AI, IoT, and automation.
The initiative is called the ‘DNB-Ericsson Educate 21st Century Technologies’ program, and is being rolled out free of charge, and is designed to help Malaysia push forward with its digital ambitions. The idea is to build up the public sector’s digital skills so that city councils and government agencies can deliver smarter, more connected services to Malaysians. It also directly ties into the country’s big-picture goal of becoming a leading AI-driven nation by 2030, as outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan.
Participants will get access to an interactive, mobile-friendly platform with short, self-paced modules based on Ericsson’s global know-how in emerging technologies. There’s even a “Connected City” simulation that lets users test their skills by tackling real-world urban connectivity problems.
This isn’t the first time DNB and Ericsson have partnered up. They’ve already been working closely to roll out Malaysia’s 5G infrastructure, and this education initiative complements existing efforts to skill up university students. Put together, these moves reinforce Malaysia’s path toward a digitally empowered economy and society.
Ericsson Malaysia’s head, David Hägerbro, stated Malaysia already has the building blocks such as a solid 5G network, growing data centers, and strong cloud infrastructure, but technology alone won’t cut it without a digitally skilled workforce to put it to use. That’s why Ericsson is stepping in with DNB to help public servants drive the country’s digital-first strategies.
On DNB’s side, CEO Datuk Azman Ismail stressed that the collaboration is about more than just skills; it’s about laying the groundwork for AI-powered cities, inclusive ecosystems, and a future-ready public sector. Phase one will focus on city and municipal councils, giving frontline officers the tools they need to implement digital strategies that align with national priorities.
