As we have many new laptops with the brand new RTX 20-series of GPUs, many of us are asking the question of when the cheaper Turing-based GTX series of GPUs will be in laptops. I think now the answer is clear – it’s coming soon, and it is found in very affordable gaming laptops.
Lazada just leaked one listing for the ASUS TUF FX505 refresh which sports some interesting specs and it is priced at only RM3,099.
- Display: 15.6-inch 1080p display
- CPU: AMD R5-3550H
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 with 4GB VRAM
- HDD: 1TB @ 5400RPM
- RAM: 4GB DDR4
From here, two interesting pieces of hardware – firstly, the CPU. This is a Ryzen 5 CPU with 4C/8T with a base clock of 2.1GHz and a max boost clock of 3.7GHz. In terms of clock speed, it is the same amount of cores and threads, but a tad bit slower than the Intel Core i5-8300H, but the Ryzen 5 3550H has 10W lower TDP.
As for the GPU, this signifies that the new FX505 refresh will be one of the first to be using the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GPU on a laptop. Little is known about this laptop as of now as it is still not available in the market yet. We expect its performance to be faster than the existing GTX 1050 Ti.
This means that the new ASUS TUF FX505 will be a refresh of the existing FX505 as they are both using the same chassis and presumable same display as well.
Since the new ASUS TUF FX505 is using an AMD processor, the price can be even lower than before, as shown in this listing. RM3,099 is just unbelievably affordable!
P/S: I’m using an FX504 which was more expensive than this at launch. Imagine how I feel now.
