It’s quite a crazy day here in Malaysia for ASUS ROG as they just launched a slew of new products. We have the successor of the thin and light gaming notebook aptly named Zephyrus S GX531, the bigger 17.3-inch sized Strix SCAR II, and also ROG Collection where we now can buy ROG T-shirts and also backpacks from stores.

ROG Zephyrus S GX531

Continuing the original Zephyrus, the new Zephyrus S comes with the latest Intel Core i7-8750H, GTX 1060, 512GB NVMe SSD with 16GB of RAM, alongside with a 1080p display that has 144Hz refresh rate and also 3ms response time.

The new Zephyrus S GX531 is thinner and smaller than its predecessor and comes with a few improvements as well – particularly on the cooler side of things.

It now has the patented Active Aerodynamic System (AAS) and equipped with two 12V, 83-blade fans to provide even better airflow. Just like the predecessor, the bottom part opens to allow more airflow as well.

As for the software side of things, the ROG Game Center is now replaced by the new Armoury Crate, which is clean and polished in terms of UI and how information is displayed. Everything is integrated into one hub, as the plugins and extra ASUS/ROG applications are found here too.

Strix SCAR II 17.3-inch GL704

We actually reviewed the original Strix SCAR II 15.6-inch version right here. The new Strix SCAR II 17.3-inch GL704 has a few notable changes in terms of specs and obviously – the size.

It is still packed with the latest Intel Core i7-8750H with 16GB RAM, 256GB NVMe SSD alongside with 1TB HDD – but it has a GTX 1060 6GB VRAM. We presume that this is for better cooling as well since the original Strix SCAR II is quite hot.

As for the display, it now has a 17.3-inch display with 144Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time, surrounded by a very thin bezel. With such a thin bezel, the Strix SCAR II 17.3-inch GL704 manages to be around the footprint of a 15.6-inch laptop. That’s impressive.

ROG Collection T-shirt & backpack

We know that this is coming. We already saw it during the ASUS Incredible Intelligence event here.

ASUS Malaysia is bringing in a total of two different T-shirt designs and also 3 different backpacks. ASUS is incorporating the iconic ROG logo into each of its ROG Collection products.

We first have the Lifestyle T-shirt which says “eat, sleep, game” and the second design is a mechanical ROG eye logo. Sort of looks similar to the mechanical NVIDIA logo design that I have.

Then comes the backpacks. The ROG Ranger 2-in-1 backpack is a detachable backpack where you can carry either one of the two parts, or carry both of them together as a single backpack. Both of them have very different compartment sizes. The best thing about this bag is that you can literally leave one part in your hotel room while traveling. Keeps light and simple. As for the BP2500, it can carry up to 15.6-inch laptops, made out of 1680D leatherette that is waterproof and scratch-resistant, and also has water-repellent zippers. Even comes with a build-in luggage stray for you to strap the bag to your luggage case and to be pulled together.

Last but not least, the BP1500. It can carry up to 15.6-inch laptops as well and comes with triangular base-corner guards to protect your stuff and providing comfort with its extensive mesh on the backrest area.
