The new Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors aren’t the only new thing AMD has, as they’ve also announced the release of the Ryzen 9 5900 and Ryzen 7 5800, the reduced-TDP alternatives for its award-winning Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 7 5800X desktop processors.
Well, the only downside here is that these processors are currently available only to pre-built OEM systems. Though we won’t know if AMD will make them available to the public in the near future just like how they did with the once OEM-exclusive Ryzen 5 3500.
Ryzen 9 5900 & Ryzen 7 5800
Model | Cores/Threads | Base Frequency (GHz) | Boost Frequency (GHz) | Cache (MB) | TDP (Watts) |
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X | 12C/24T | 3.7 GHz | Up to 4.8GHz | 70 | 105 |
AMD Ryzen 9 5900 | 12C/24T | 3.0 GHz | Up to 4.7GHz | 70 | 65 |
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | 8C/16T | 3.8GHz | Up to 4.7GHz | 36 | 105 |
AMD Ryzen 7 5800 | 8C/16T | 3.4 GHz | Up to 4.6GHz | 36 | 65 |
For the specifications, both the Ryzen 9 5900 and Ryzen 7 5800 will feature a lower TDP at 65W but the rest of the numbers have somewhat given us an impression that they’re the nerfed version of the Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 7 5800X. The base clock is noticeably lower, with only 3.0GHz on the Ryzen 9 5900 and 3.4GHz on the Ryzen 7 5800, but they can still boost to almost on par (100MHz slower) with the Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 7 5800X when necessary.
According to AMD, the Ryzen 9 5900 desktop processor will offer an average of 24% faster 1080p gaming across select titles compared to the prior generation. So you can expect to see a better performing AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors powered pre-built systems from the participation partners very soon.
