ROG Malaysia just expanded its lineup of premium AMD Ryzen motherboards with the launch of the ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme and ROG Crosshair X870E Apex that join the previously released X870E Hero, giving high-end builders three top-tier options for Ryzen 9000 Series systems.
First, the X870E Extreme is built for users who want everything maxed out. It’s powered by a 20+2+2 phase power design that easily handles chips like the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, even under full load. It also includes thick VRM heatsinks and dual 8-pin ProCool II connectors with solid pins to ensure clean power delivery.
A board of this class is all about overclocking, as the Extreme OC kit comes with an LN2 mode for those into exotic cooling setups. Also, you get a ReTry button for easier rebooting during OC attempts, a customizable FlexKey, and a full set of Probelt voltage readout points for detailed monitoring.
In the BIOS, one can find one-click options like AI Overclocking, ASUS Enhanced Memory Profiles (AEMP), and deeper tools like Dynamic OC Switcher (which balances multi-core OC with PBO for light workloads) and Core Flex for advanced tuning. There’s also AI Cache Boost, which can give you up to a 12.75% uplift in AI workloads involving large language models.
Memory performance gets a boost too, thanks to NitroPath DRAM technology, which improves signal quality and can increase overclocked speeds by up to 400 MT/s, depending on your RAM and setup.
Storage-wise, the Extreme includes a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot (compatible with longer M.2 22110 drives) and a thick dedicated heatsink with M.2 Q-Release, so no tools are needed. Between Q-Release and M.2 Q-Latch, you can install and secure your SSDs completely tool-free.
Connectivity is top-tier too = 10Gb Marvell AQtion Ethernet, 5Gb Realtek Ethernet, and WiFi 7 (2×2) with the ASUS WiFi Q-Antenna for up to 6.5Gbps speeds over the 6GHz band.
On the other hand, the classic and RAM OC veteran’s favourite – The X870E Apex is built for one thing: pushing memory performance to the extreme. It’s part of ASUS’s Apex line that is known for record-setting OC, and for the first time, they are supporting Team Red in this effort.
Aside from the usual dual-DIMM slot setup for reduced noise and interference, it also supports LN2 mode for sub-zero OC sessions powered by the 18+2+2 power stages cooled by thick heatsinks connected with an L-shaped heatpipe, plus integrated I/O shielding for extra surface area. On the bottom, the whole rear side is reinforced with metal armor that adds both cooling and rigidity.
Additionally, you get a bunch of fan headers, including one for an AIO pump and another high-amperage W_PUMP+ header for custom liquid loops. ASUS also throws in a ROG Memory Fan Kit, which snaps onto the board and provides active cooling to your DIMMs.
Like its sibling, the Apex offers full-blown PCIe 5.0 support: two x16 slots for GPUs, three M.2 slots for ultra-fast storage, and tool-free Q-Latch and Q-Release across the board. For additional expansion, you also get two PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots via the included ROG DIMM.2 card and four SATA ports.
Connectivity is similarly stacked: WiFi 7, 5Gb Ethernet, and plenty of fast USB ports.
Availability
Both the ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme and X870E Apex will hit shelves in Malaysia by the end of May 2025.
