It’s CES 2024 and ROG has announced the new ROG Phone 8 series – about 2 months earlier when compared to its predecessors. The new gaming phone comes with the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset with a super fast 8533Mb/s LPDDR5X RAM and also is the world’s first IP68 gaming phone. If the phone ever gets too hot, we can literally just dunk it in water and get some much-needed water-cooling.
There are also lots of design changes as the stereo front-facing speakers design are now gone, in favor of a higher screen-to-body ratio. The cameras also got an upgrade and so did the software features.
It now features a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with LTPO technology that can vary its refresh rate all the way down to 1Hz to save battery if we’re just reading some text. It will also have 720Hz touch sampling rate so that it won’t miss any of your fast-paced finger action too.
For the ROG Phone 8 Pro/Pro Edition in particular, we have the AniMe Vision that is very similar in concept with the ROG Zephyrus G14. It has little dots and each of the dot is an LED, and we can customize it to show text or some custom drawing that we made. It’s quite a nice feature that we’ll definitely talk about in the future.
Here is the full specs sheet of the ROG Phone 8 series. There are some differences between the two – so take note of that.

The ROG Phone 8 Pro Edition, however, comes with the AeroActive Cooler X in the box whereby the ROG Phone 8 Pro does not. I know, the name “ROG Phone 8 Pro Edition” is weird and they should’ve just called it a different name instead. The word “Edition” here doesn’t signify anything “special”, per see.
Oh – we also have the unboxing for both the ROG Phone 8 Pro Edition and ROG Phone 8 on our other YouTube channel. Check it out here.
As for the pricing and availability, they’ll be announced for us Malaysians on 30th January 2023.
