When it comes to upgrading a gaming setup, most of us would straight away think of the keyboard, mouse, headphones, monitor and even the mousepad. Even though all of the aforementioned peripherals play an important role in enhancing your gaming experience, we often overlooked the basics of the basics – table and chair.

How many of you are still using the same old desk and chair even after switching your PC setup a couple of times? In Malaysia, we have this infamous banquet table and plastic chair combination because it is the cheapest setup one can get, especially for those on the budget. That goes without saying, you will be sacrificing a lot in terms of features and comfort for it.

The reason why a proper desk and chair setup is so important is not just for the looks. In fact, you’re investing in a long term benefit such as ergonomics. Today we shall level up our gaming setup with the Cooler Master GD160 desk and Calibre X1C gaming chair.

Stability

Stability is one of the most important aspects of a computer desk. While the banquet tables can be folded and easily transportable, the overall construction & stability leaves a lot to be desired. At some point in your life, you would want to settle down with a permanent battle station and that brings us to the Cooler Master GD160. It has an overall steel construction and support frame for the chipboard tabletop, capable of supporting up to 100kg load.

In our setup, we have a MasterFrame 700 together with an AOC AGON 49 super-wide monitor. Even though our PC is placed at the corner of the table, we have not experienced any instability with such an arrangement.

There are three adjustable height options available for different user preferences – 71cm, 75cm and 79cm. Despite the adjustment can only be done without having any load on the table, having three height choices should be able to satisfy some users’ specific needs for their table setup.

Huge Work Space

On that side note, most of the table sizes we are familiar with measure between 100cm to 120cm in length. Don’t even get me started on the width as some tables are as narrow as 45cm. How can anyone survive with a 45cm narrow table when IKEA LINNMON at 60cm is already giving me claustrophobia. Having a large workspace is a godsend no matter if you’re using the table for gaming or work. The Cooler Master GD160’s tabletop is designed to be a unique polygon shape that is clearly inspired by their hexagon logo. As such, while the table length is 160cm, the width is between 63cm and 75cm.

Cooler Master even included a full-table mousepad with the GD160. Yes, you heard that right, it is a humongous mousepad that covers the entire table, corner to corner. It should be able to satisfy even the needs of the 400 dpi gang.

Cable Management

Underneath the table is a handy little rack that helps with hiding all the cables. Bid goodbye to all the unpleasing cable pasta once you tied them up and tuck it under the cable management rack.

The chair we got for the setup is the Cooler Master Calibre X1C. Sure most of the gaming chairs in the market look identical with the racing bucket seat inspired design. What makes the Calibre X1C stands out from the rest is the fabric material they used to wrap the seating cushion.

Cool-in Technology

To be frank with you, I’m not a fan of PU leather as they trap heat and makes me uncomfortable even after a short seating session. In other words, they are the worst kind of material for a gaming chair other than being aesthetically pleasing and “high-class” look-alike. Not to mention they tend to disintegrate within a few years.

That brings us to the fabric as the cushion wrapping material. I wouldn’t mind if it is just a normal fabric wrapping but Cooler Master has done something different with the Calibre X1C. It incorporates Cooler Master’s Cool-in technology whereby the fabric yarn is optimised for ventilation and moisture absorption, allowing a cool-dry seating experience.

Highly Adjustable

On top of the comfortable seating experience, the chair is also extremely versatile with its adjustability. Apart from the gas lift powered height adjustment, the back also can be reclined up to 180 degrees.

There are four different ways to adjust the hand rest which you will definitely find the right position to suit your taste.

Conclusion

Overall, we’re happy with our latest gaming PC setup with the chair being the biggest surprise for surpassing our expectations. Remember, a proper gaming setup is just as important as having a set of good gaming peripherals. Your investment will pay itself since you will be using it for hours for each gaming session. Besides, a good set of furniture will last way longer with proper maintenance. Cooler Master’s offering will definitely appeal to those who are looking to upgrade their current gaming setup for years to come.
