Kailh has just teased their latest creation, the MIX-7 mechanical switch, and it comes with a pretty interesting feature. It has a built-in lever that lets you toggle between linear and clicky mode on the fly.
According to Kailh, the MIX-7 has a total travel distance of 3.6±0.4mm, an actuation distance of 1.6±0.4mm, and an operation force of 45±10gf. It is also rated for a mechanical lifespan of 80 million cycles, so durability should not be a concern here.
I am not the biggest fan of clicky switches, but the idea of being able to swap between linear and clicky at will is intriguing. It gives users the flexibility to match their switch feel to their current mood or task, such as smooth and quiet for work, then loud and clicky for that satisfying feedback when gaming.
Kailh has not shared any release dates or pricing yet, so we will have to wait and see. Either way, I am curious to see how the mechanical keyboard community will react to this new approach. If it works well, it could be a fun and versatile option for those who like to mix things up without changing their whole keyboard.
