AMD has officially announced two of its new graphics cards today at E3, the Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT. Teased back in Computex 2019, the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT utilizes the new Navi GPU and new compute unit design RDNA that is capable of delivering up to 1.25 times the IPC and 1.5 times the performance per watt over.
At the E3 keynote, AMD compared NVIDIA’s RTX 2070 and RTX 2060 with its newly announced RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 in terms of price and performance at 1440p gaming. Going directly against the RTX 2070 is the RX 5700 XT, which offers up to 22% better performance for $449. The RX 5700 will be the direct competitor to the RTX 2060, offering up to 21% better performance for $379.

Other than the new Navi GPU, both the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT are also equipped with the latest PCIe 4.0 interface, 8GB GDDR6 memory and Navi GPU that is getting closer to 2000MHz on the GPU clock, finally. We have yet to see any custom PCB and cooler design from the board partners as of now, but here’s a brief introduction on AMD’s reference card design:
Like most of the reference design we’ve seen, both cards will feature a blower cooler equipped with a vapor chamber heatsink. AMD didn’t specifically mention anything about its acoustic performance, but the airflow optimized and acoustically tuned contour design is supposed to provide a quieter performance over the previous generation reference design.
Cooler aside, the RX 5700 XT also features a 7 phase digital power system that is meant to allow better power efficiency and more headroom for overclocking. While everything seems to be going really well for AMD with their new Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT cards, we do have our concerns on the numbers of power connectors used.
Despite the 1.5 times increase in performance per watt over the previous generation, the use of an 8-pin and 6-pin power connectors on the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT does raise some eyebrow here because NVIDIA’s RTX 2070 and RTX 2060 uses only one 8-pin power connector.
