Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8+ launched in Malaysia

By: John Diew

The wait is finally over. Today Samsung Malaysia has officially announced the local launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. The devices will go on sale tomorrow (5th May 2017) and for those who had pre-ordered, they can start to collect their device starting today.

Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8+ Specifications

Alongside with the launch, Samsung also introduces the Samsung DeX, a desktop dock for Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ that turns your phone into a desktop computer.

What you need to do is to simply connect a monitor with a set of keyboard & mouse to the dock and you're ready. I am really looking forward that Samsung can grow the platform so that more applications support the use case.

Also introduced during the event is the new Samsung Gear line up with the new Gear 360 camera and Gear VR with the controller. The new Gear 360 camera is a cute little camera that is capable of shooting 4K videos and live broadcast. Meanwhile, the Gear VR headset had received a modest redesign and now comes with a controller. Price as follows:
Samsung Gear 360 2017 - RM 999

Samsung Gear VR with controller - RM 499

We also tried out the Bixby virtual assistant at the experience zone. However, at the time of launch, Bixby can only operate base on image and text. Voice search is still not supported. Since the South Korea Samsung Galaxy S8 has received updates to allow voice commands, we're sure that the function will soon arrive at our shore.

Availability

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be available for purchase beginning 5th May 2017 at all Samsung Experience Stores and authorised dealers.
Samsung Galaxy S8 - RM 3,299

Samsung Galaxy S8+ - RM 3,699
