Nanoxia Announces The Availability Of Project S Silver

The base for the development of the Project S has been the widely known “NanoXia Project”, which we first showed at Computex 2015 and which was also a great eye catcher at this year’s Gamescom in Cologne. The very elegant and extremely user friendly case combines high-grade steel for maximum stability, an aluminum front panel with RGB LED bar for the classic look and a top cover made of tempered glass to allow an unobstructed view on the interior of the case.

The main feature of the case is – without a doubt – the „drawer-priciple”. This unique feature goes back to the original Nanoxia Project: A drawer allows users to pull out the complete system, including motherboard, power supply, hard disks and fans/radiators. It is also easily possible to simply take the whole drawer out – which makes the installation of the hardware a breeze.

The particular elegant front offers not only HD audio and two USB 3.0 connectors, but also a UDB Type-C connector, which is looped to a corresponding connector at rear of the user’s motherboard. A multi-colored rigid LED bar can be found in the lower part of the aluminum front panel. By simply pushing the LED button – located in the I/O-panel – it is possible to switch between different colors or to simply switch it off completely, if desired.

The HDD/SSD mounting cages are fully modular, which makes the case very versatile. Two 3.5 inch drives can be mounted in a separate HDD cage located at the left side as seen from the front. Three 2.5 inch SSD holders can be found behind the front. The generous cable management below the motherboard tray allows for a very clean interior. Fans of water cooling can install 240/280 mm radiators behind the front, as well as a 360 mm model on the right side of the case. If users decide not to make use of the 3.5 inch cage, they can also mount a 120 mm radiator on the left side of the case.

If users decide not to use the Project S as an HTPC case, they can also consider to use it as a mid-tower in an upright position. In this case, the glass top becomes the left side panel, the power supply will be located at the bottom and three case fans will allow for optimal ventilation. The case comes with easy-to-clean dust filters all around.

The Project S in silver is now available in stores. The MSRP is 249.99€, including 19% VAT. The black edition is expected to arrive at the beginning of November.

NVIDIA Rumored To Launch Both GTX 1050 And GTX 1050 Ti In October

While some may be excited with the GeForce GTX 1050 that is expected to arrive later in October, a recent rumor from WCCFTech suggests that we might be expect for another surprise from NVIDIA - the GTX 1050 Ti.

According to the unconfirmed specifications on videocardz.com, the GTX 1050 Ti seems to have the same specifications as the GTX 1050 earlier. The GTX 1050 Ti will feature the Pascal GP107-400 that comes with a total of 768 CUDA Cores count, GPU clock of 1290 MHz and boost clock of 1381 MHz, a total of 4GB GDDR5 memory on 128-bit bus, with the memory which is clocked at 7GHz.

The new specifications of the GTX 1050 as so it may seem, will feature a lower Pascal GP107-300 GPU, total CUDA core count of 640, higher GPU clock of 1354 MHz and boost clock of 1455 MHz, a total of 2GB GDDR5 memory on 128-bit bus but with undefined memory clock as of now.

Both the GTX 1050 and GTX 1050 Ti will feature a mere TDP of 75W and will still be positioned in between AMD's Radeon RX 460 ($119) and RX 470 ($179) with expected SRP of $149 for the GTX 1050 Ti and $119 for the GTX 1050.

Choosing High Performance HDD Over Mainstream HDD - Is It Worth The Money?

Be it a PC enthusiasts, gamers or people in the creative industry, they're all looking for responsive and fast performance from their system and storage drive is one of the crucial component that plays an important role in delivering the best possible performance.

High performance storage device, SSD especially, is definitely a way to go for if you need a blazing fast performance, but what stands in the way is non other than limitation in terms of capacity and cost. SSD for OS and HDD for storage in a system is a commonly used solution, but the choice HDD is debatable as always -  - will high performance HDD do any better than a mainstream HDD?

WD Black drives, Seagate Barracuda, Toshiba P300, etc are some of the widely known high performance HDD in the market and many of us is eager to know if the money that we're planning to spend on it will be a worthy investment, since some would cost roughly 30 - 50% more over the mainstream choices.

We ran a series of test to verify the performance difference with a WD Blue 6TB drive, WD Black 6TB drive and an Intel 520 Series 240GB SSD, and the results of those test is populated graphs as below:

Just to highlight again, performance HDD doesn't comes cheap, as according to the current pricing for a WD Blue 6TB (RM989) and WD Black 6TB (RM1349) on Lazada. Significant difference in terms of performance can be observed on the WD Black drive throughout our test, but that doesn't means that it's totally superior over the mainstream WD Blue drive as it is pretty much negligible if the drive is used ONLY for office work i.e processing document, checking emails.

The group of people who will sure to benefit from it would be PC enthusiasts, gamers and people in the creative industry who is looking for a storage solution that offers the sweet spot for speed and capacity without having to break the bank with a high capacity SSD, given that a 1TB SSD would cost you almost the amount as a WD Black 6TB drive.

Started off with the MasterCase 5 and its 'Make It Yours' initiative, Cooler Master has made quite a progress after they announced its maker concept and maker ecosystem 2 years ago during Computex 2015. While things are looking good for the MasterCase, some find its form factor inconvenient, especially for users who is fond with a smaller sized chassis.

Cooler Master expanded its product line this year, during Computex 2016, with the MasterBox series as one of the highlight throughout the exhibition and we're reviewing one of them in the lineup today, white with DarkMirror front panel, the MasterBox 5 Dual Tone.

(The MasterBox 5  comes in 3 variant, windowed and non-windowed black with meshed front panel and windowed white with DarkMirror front panel, a retailed at RM399)

Unboxing

The MasterBox 5 ships in an environmentally friendly cardboard box and with its features highlighted at the back of the box.

The accessories included aren't exactly fancy - a pack containing zip ties, necessary screws, stand-offs, but it's definitely sufficient to get the job done.

The protection were pretty standard, flanked in between 2 pieces of polystyrene foam as protection against shock during transportation and plastic cover to prevent minor scratches.

Though it comes in smaller size, the MasterBox 5 does share quite a few similarities with the MasterCase 5 in terms of design.

The front I/O has everything well labelled, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, power and reset button, audio jacks.

The front panel is equipped with a DarkMirror panel for the aesthetics with LED fans, and under that panel you'll find a 120mm fan for intake, as well as the support for up to 360mm radiator with an optional bracket that can be purchased from the CM Store.

The MasterBox 5 has a windowed side panel with a large window to satisfy your need for hardware showcase.

Everything looks pretty standard at the back of the chassis, but we can see that the MasterBox 5 did come with an extra feature for vertically mounted graphics card for hardware showcase - you'll have to get your own PCIe riser though.

At the bottom of the chassis, you'll have the elevated design which supports better airflow for the bottom mounted power supply. And like most of the chassis nowadays, the MasterBox 5 has a dust filter included at the power supply area to minimize the dust intake to your power supply.

The interior of the MasterBox 5, with and without the power supply cover and hard drive cage. It's surprisingly spacious for a PC chassis of its size and it's capable of supporting CPU cooler up to 167mm height, graphics card of up to 307mm length, motherboard with form factor of ITX to not only ATX as what's stated in the specs, but E-ATX as well.

The MasterBox 5 too comes with a power supply cover for the aesthetics, a design that has become a new trend and can be seen on the products of big players in the PC chassis market.

The removable hard drive cage support up to 2 HDD and the SSD bracket can be mounted on top of the cage, which ever that suits you, just make it your way.

The MasterBox 5 supports 240mm/280mm radiator by default, and up to 360mm radiator with an optional bracket that can be purchased from CM Store for water cooling setup and if you need a thicker radiator, or just wanted to have a push and pull setup, all you have to do is to remove the hard drive cage for that extra space required.

The 2.5" drive mount supports up to 3 drives, though you will need to purchase that extra 2.5" drive bracket as the MasterBox 5 only comes with one.

Behind the motherboard tray, you'll find more of what the MasterBox 5 can offer. Cutout for 2.5" drive mount, cutout for cable routing and of course, a plenty amount of space to get all the magic done with this small chassis.

Moving on to the performance test, we ran a few stress test with the setup that we've prepared as above. These involves the CPU stress test utility Prime95 with the option 'In-place large FFTs' while GPU stress test utility FurMark with its Furry Donut stress test for maximum heat output from both the CPU and GPU.

Verdict
While it doesn't offer modularity and expandability as much as a MasterCase 5, the MasterBox 5 is one very capable chassis of its size, a small sized but spacious mid-tower that offers quite a reasonable support for high-end motherboards and graphics card, CPU coolers and water cooling kit - all that's enough for you to build a very capable gaming rig. On top of that, the large window on the side panel provide excellent hardware showcase, something you can proudly brag to your friends and family.

In short, if you need a good enthusiasts grade chassis for all the high-end components, cooling solution, yet not a big fan of a colossal chassis, the MasterBox 5 is one good alternative for all those needs, at a considerable price tag of RM399.

Pros
  • Simple and sleek design
  • Good features and build quality
  • Good hardware compatibility
  • Comes with power supply cover
  • Decent cable management design
  • Reasonable support for water cooling setup
Cons
  • Comes with only one 2.5" HDD/SSD mounting bracket
  • The included fan isn't moving a lot of air
  • Odd position of the PSU cover cutout for cable routing
