Plextor has it all! Releases all new PlexTurbo and M6V series SSDs for simple system upgrades

Intel and Micron Produce Breakthrough Memory Technology

SANTA CLARA, Calif., and BOISE, Idaho, July 29, 2015Intel Corporation and Micron Technology, Inc. today unveiled 3D XPoint™ technology, a non-volatile memory that has the potential to revolutionize any device, application or service that benefits from fast access to large sets of data. Now in production, 3D XPoint technology is a major breakthrough in memory process technology and the first new memory category since the introduction of NAND flash in 1989. 

The explosion of connected devices and digital services is generating massive amounts of new data. To make this data useful, it must be stored and analyzed very quickly, creating challenges for service providers and system builders who must balance cost, power and performance trade-offs when they design memory and storage solutions. 3D XPoint technology combines the performance, density, power, non-volatility and cost advantages of all available memory technologies on the market today. The technology is up to 1,000 times faster and has up to 1,000 times greater endurance than NAND, and is 10 times denser than conventional memory.

“For decades, the industry has searched for ways to reduce the lag time between the processor and data to allow much faster analysis,” said Rob Crooke, senior vice president and general manager of Intel’s Non-Volatile Memory Solutions Group. “This new class of non-volatile memory achieves this goal and brings game-changing performance to memory and storage solutions.”

As the digital world quickly grows – from 4.4 zettabytes of digital data created in 2013 to an expected 44 zettabytes by 2020 – 3D XPoint technology can turn this immense amount of data into valuable information in nanoseconds. For example, retailers may use 3D XPoint technology to more quickly identify fraud detection patterns in financial transactions; healthcare researchers could process and analyze larger data sets in real time, accelerating complex tasks such as genetic analysis and disease tracking. 

The performance benefits of 3D XPoint technology could also enhance the PC experience, allowing consumers to enjoy faster interactive social media and collaboration as well as more immersive gaming experiences. The non-volatile nature of the technology also makes it a great choice for a variety of low-latency storage applications since data is not erased when the device is powered off. 

New Recipe, Architecture for Breakthrough Memory Technology
Following more than a decade of research and development, 3D XPoint technology was built from the ground up to address the need for non-volatile, high-performance, high-endurance and high-capacity storage and memory at an affordable cost. It ushers in a new class of non-volatile memory that significantly reduces latencies, allowing much more data to be stored close to the processor and accessed at speeds previously impossible for non-volatile storage. 

The innovative, transistor-less cross point architecture creates a three-dimensional checkerboard where memory cells sit at the intersection of word lines and bit lines, allowing the cells to be addressed individually. As a result, data can be written and read in small sizes, leading to faster and more efficient read/write processes. 

More details about 3D XPoint technology include:
  • Cross Point Array Structure – Perpendicular conductors connect 128 billion densely packed memory cells. Each memory cell stores a single bit of data. This compact structure results in high performance and high-density bits.
  • Stackable – In addition to the tight cross point array structure, memory cells are stacked in multiple layers. The initial technology stores 128Gb per die across two memory layers. Future generations of this technology can increase the number of memory layers, in addition to traditional lithographic pitch scaling, further improving system capacities.
  • Selector – Memory cells are accessed and written or read by varying the amount of voltage sent to each selector. This eliminates the need for transistors, increasing capacity while reducing cost. 
  • Fast Switching Cell – With a small cell size, fast switching selector, low-latency cross point array and fast write algorithm, the cell is able to switch states faster than any existing non-volatile memory technology today.
3D XPoint technology will sample later this year with select customers, and Intel and Micron are developing individual products based on the technology.

July 29, 2015 — Technology, and memory technology in particular, can be overwhelming with so many speeds and specifications to keep track of. 3D XPoint technology presents many potential advantages for certain high-performance applications. The examples below help visualize these advantages in a more abstract way, using examples from daily life.

3D XPoint Technology Performance

3D XPoint technology is up to 1,000x faster than NAND. 
  • The average daily commute of Americans would reduce from 25 minutes in traffic to 1.5 seconds. 
  • Traveling by plane from San Francisco to Beijing could happen in about 43 seconds, instead of the 12 hours it takes now. 
  • The Great Wall of China could have been built in 73 days instead of 200 years.

HDD latency is measured in milliseconds, NAND latency is measured in microseconds, and 3D XPoint technology latency is measured in nanoseconds (one-billionth of a second).

ASUS Ultra-Low Blue Light Monitors Receive Most Number of TÜV Rheinland Certifications for Low Blue Light Emissions

Cooler Master B-series ver.2 Power Supplies Now Available in Malaysia!

Cooler Master follows EU Regulation
As part of the EU regulation all internally installed power supplies must achieve a minimum level of efficiency in several load conditions and have a power factor of 0.9 at full load.This means that within the EU, focus will be on energy saving and nature friendly designs. However, there is no substitute for the sense of pride and satisfaction that comes from designing and building your very own gaming PC machine from the bottom up, assembled from parts you selected according to your needs and desires. For those of us with no experience, it seems like a daunting task to build a powerful gaming PC rig. That’s why we created the GeForce Garage web site, a resource center that will guide you through the process, whether you’re a DIY beginner or seasoned vet. AMD Delivers World’s First Server GPU with Industry-Leading 32GB Memory for High Performance Compute

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia. — July 13, 2015 — AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) today announced the new AMD FirePro™ S9170 server GPU, the world’s first and fastest 32GB single-GPU server card for DGEMM heavy double-precision workloads, with support for OpenCL™ 2.0. Based on the second-generation AMD Graphics Core Next (GCN) GPU architecture, this new addition to the AMD FirePro™ server GPU family is capable of delivering up to 5.24 TFLOPS of peak single precision compute performance while enabling full throughput double precision performance, providing up to 2.62 TFLOPS of peak double precision performance. 

Designed with compute-intensive workflows in mind, the AMD FirePro S9170 server GPU is ideal for data center managers who oversee clusters within academic or government bodies, oil and gas industries, or deep neural network compute cluster development.

SAPPHIRE Takes Tri-X to the Next Level with R9 FURY - FURY Fast and Super Cool

SAPPHIRE Technology has just introduced a new enthusiast level graphics card, designed to deliver “Best in Class” performance in 4K gaming and multi-screen applications, while at the same time running cool and quietly. The SAPPHIRE Tri-X Radeon R9 FURY is based on an exciting new GPU from AMD that combines Graphics Core Next architecture with the revolutionary high bandwidth memory (HBM). This is coupled with a new and sophisticated cooling solution developed specially for this card, based on SAPPHIRE’s award winning multi-heatpipe triple fan Tri-X cooler to allow the card to run totally silently at low loads, and quietly and at low temperatures even when gaming or in demanding applications.

Most efficient Tri-X Cooler yet
The SAPPHIRE Tri-X Radeon R9 FURY has the most efficient Tri-X Cooler ever built by the company. The multiple heatpipe array now consists of two 8mm and four 6mm heatpipes in addition to the central industry leading 10mm heatpipe. Heat is transferred from the GPU and core components with a solid copper transfer plate, and the heatpipes are surrounded by high density stacked cooler fins. Great but quiet airflow is provided by three 90mm fans each with aerofoil section blades and dual-ball bearing hubs for long reliable life. A diecast mounting frame supports the PCB and cooler assembly and provides rigidity. The cooler shroud mounts to this frame and controls airflow, and because the cooler assembly extends beyond the PCB there is increased air circulation through the end section of the cooler. Finally a thick aluminium backplate reduces the temperature of the PCB mounted components.

Running temperatures of the card are controlled by two sophisticated systems. The FURY GPU has multiple thermal sensors and AMD’s Advanced Fan Control system regulates fan speeds by arbitrating the signals from these multiple sources to achieve the lowest fan speeds for a given target operating temperature. The default target temperature results in very low fan speeds and quiet operation even under load. In addition, the second generation of SAPPHIRE Intelligent Fan Control (IFCII) implemented on this card interacts with this so that all fans are completely stopped at light load – meaning the card is totally silent until the operating temperature rises under increased load.

The user has a visual indication of the running status of the card with a bank of LEDs. The first LED indicates the card is in AMD ZeroPower Mode. Beside that an 8-LED bar indicates the intensity of GPU activity, based on power draw under load. The colour of these LEDs is user configurable.

Latest AMD Graphics Core Next GPU
The SAPPHIRE Tri-X Radeon R9 FURY is based on AMD’s much anticipated FIJI Pro Chip featuring HBM (High Bandwidth memory). In this solution, the GPU and Memory are assembled together in one “module”. This saves PCB space, improves power efficiency and speed of communication between the GPU and memory. The latest evolution of AMD’s GCN architecture, this device has 3584 Stream Processors and a core speed of 1000MHz core (raised to 1040MHz on the SAPPHIRE OC model).  It is equipped with 4GB of superfast HBM memory with a 4096-bit memory interface delivering 512GB/s bandwidth.  The architecture also supports AMD CrossFire for high performance multi-GPU operation, and an onboard DSP delivers AMD TrueAudio for the most realistic audio effects.

Specs & Performance
The SAPPHIRE Tri-X Radeon R9 FURY is designed for enthusiast gaming. It has been given a SAPPHIRE Performance Index* of 5, meaning it is rated at Ultra Enthusiast Level and is suitable for 4K Gaming and demanding multi-monitor applications. To support multiple monitors, the card is fitted with three DisplayPort and one HDMI (1.4a) outputs. This enables it to support 4 monitors natively, or up to six monitors with an MST hub or Daisy-chain capable monitors. For the enthusiast, the card is fitted with a Dual BIOS Switch. In one position the power envelope is limited to 300W. In the other position, this limit is unlocked to 350W allowing more headroom for overclocking.
